The usefulness of the course to the society is well accepted by the Madurai Kamaraj University by affiliating the college to the University (MKU CDC/3/SBTTC. Dt.7.7.1999). The B.Ed. Course is recognized by Government of Tamil Nadu (Govt. of T.N. Social Welfare Dept. GO.MS. No. 184. Dt. 27.9.98) and our graduates can register in Employment (Employment Exchange Register No. 5.30.) The Special Education on Mental Retardation is recognized permanently by the Rehabilitation Council of India, New Delhi. (RCI/INSTN/267)

OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

The B.Ed.Spl.Ed. programme aims to develop Special Education teachers/Educators for children with disabilities for various settings (including Inclusive, Special, Open School and Home Based Education). The B.Ed. (Special Education) programme will prepare human resources to enable them to acquire knowledge and develop competencies and skills to impart education and training effectively to children with disability as well as all other children and this being teachers for all children. After completing the B.Ed. (Special Education) programme the student-teachers will:

a. Imbibe knowledge & skills about human development, various teaching method approaches, strategies and pedagogy of various school subjects and assessment for learning.

b. Inculcate knowledge & skills about nature and educational needs of children with disabilities as well as of cross disabilities.

c. Develop conceptual understanding of educational provisions and skills for working with children with various disabilities in Special needs and inclusive settings.

d. Enhance knowledge and skills for professional development in teaching and administration.

B.Ed. in Special Education (Intellectual Disability and Inclusion) is approved by Rehabilitation Council of India, New Delhi & affiliated by Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University, Chennai.

D.Ed in Special Education (Intellectual Disability ) is approved by Rehabilitation Council of India, New Delhi

Eligibility For Admission to B.Ed. Special Education (Intellectual Disability) Programme

A candidate shall be eligible for admission to B.Ed. Special Education (Intellectual Disability) programme leading to the Degree of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) provided fulfilling the prescribed education qualification and other requirements as specified in the B.Ed. Special Education (Intellectual Disability) Admission Guidelines of the Government of Tamil Nadu in force from time to time.

Eligibility For Admission to D.Ed. Special Education (Intellectual Disability) Programme

Students who have passed 10+2 or equivalent with 50% of marks in any stream are eligible forthe course. However, there shall be 5 percent relaxation in the percentage of marks (45%) in case the candidate belongs to SC/ST or PwD categories.

Duration of the Programme

The B.Ed/D.Ed. Special Education (Intellectual Disability)programme shall be for duration of two academic years consisting of four semesters. Each semester is spread over for a period of 100 working days (36 hours in a week spreading over for 5 or 6 working days in a week, excluding the period of examination and admission.

MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION

The medium of instruction will be English / Tamil.
